Nothing Inspired Widgets privacy policy

Summary

Nothing Inspired Widgets helps you customize your Android home screen with clean, minimal widgets. There is no account, no sign-in, and no advertising or analytics SDK in the app. We do not sell your personal data and we do not track you across other apps.

Most of what the app does - your steps, screen time, clipboard clips, habits, timers, compass heading, saved birthdate, local audio notes and currently playing media - is read, processed and stored entirely on your device and is never sent anywhere.

One feature is different. The Walkie Talkie widget sends a voice message you record to another user, so that audio necessarily leaves your device. It is relayed through Google Firebase, addressed only by a random Radio ID, and it is deleted once the recipient plays it, or within 48 hours if they never do. Section 7 describes this in full.

1. Who we are and what this policy covers

Nothing Inspired Widgets is developed and published by Ninely Tech (“we”, “us”, “our”). For the purposes of the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation we are the data controller, and under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 we act as the data fiduciary.

This policy covers the Android application distributed on Google Play under the package identifier com.greenleaf.nothingwidgets. It does not cover Google Play itself, your device's operating system, or the third-party media applications whose playback our Music widget displays. Those are governed by their own policies.

2. Information we collect

No account, no sign-in. The app does not ask you to register or log in. We do not receive your name, email address, phone number or any other directly identifying information, and we have no way to connect your use of the app to your real-world identity.

a. Information that stays on your device

The following is read, processed and stored in app-private storage on your phone. It is not transmitted to us or to anyone else:

step count, distance and calorie estimates from your phone's step sensor;
your total screen-on time for the day;
text you save into the Clipboard widget;
audio notes you record with the Gramophone widget, which are written to the app's private storage directory;
the birthdate you enter for the Age in Motion widget;
your habit list, completion history, streaks, timer and stopwatch settings;
your device's magnetic orientation, to point the compass;
the title, artist and playback state of whatever media is currently playing;
your widget layout, sizes, themes and other preferences.

b. Information that leaves your device

Walkie Talkie voice messages. Audio you record in the Walkie Talkie widget, up to 60 seconds per message, together with the Radio ID it is addressed to and the time it was sent. See section 7.
Radio ID and callsign. A random eight-character identifier generated on your device the first time you open the widget, plus the callsign you choose. The callsign is a free-text nickname shown to the people you exchange messages with, so please do not use your full name or any other detail you would rather not share.
Notification token. The Firebase Cloud Messaging registration token for your installation, used only to tell your device that a voice message is waiting.
Widget likes. An anonymous counter increment, not linked to your Radio ID or to any other identifier.
Widget requests and feedback. The text you write in the request form, plus anything you choose to put in it.

c. What we never collect

We do not collect your contacts, your precise or approximate location, your SMS or call logs, your photos or files, your browsing history, or a list of the apps you use. We do not open your microphone outside the specific moments described in section 5. We do not perform voice recognition, speaker identification or any form of biometric analysis on your recordings, and we do not transcribe, listen to or train any model on them.

We do not sell your data, we do not share it with data brokers, we do not build advertising profiles, and the app contains no advertising, analytics or social SDK.

3. How we use information

On-device data is used only to calculate and display what each widget shows, and to remember your layout and preferences.

Information that leaves your device is used only to:

deliver a voice message you recorded to the Radio ID you addressed it to, and notify that device it is waiting;
tally anonymous widget like counts;
read and consider the widget requests you send us;
let the app check whether new widgets or wallpapers are available;
investigate reports of abuse and keep the service working safely, as described in section 12.

4. Legal bases for processing

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases. Where India's DPDP Act applies, we rely on your consent, given when you choose to use the feature concerned.

Investigating abuse reports	Our legitimate interest, and that of other users, in keeping the service safe (Article 6(1)(f)).

5. Permissions

We only ask for a permission when a specific widget needs it, and you can revoke any of them at any time in Android Settings. The widget that relies on it will stop working; nothing else will.

Permission	Why it is needed
Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO)	Required to record a Walkie Talkie voice message, to record a Gramophone audio note, and to start Voice Mic dictation. The microphone is opened only while you are actively recording, never in the background and never continuously.
Physical Activity (ACTIVITY_RECOGNITION)	Used only by the Pedometer widget to read your step count.
Usage Access (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS)	Used only by the Screen Time widget to total your daily screen-on duration. You must enable it yourself in Android Settings. We read aggregate durations, not which apps you opened.
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS)	Used on Android 13 and above to show timer countdowns and to alert you that a Walkie Talkie message is waiting.
Foreground service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE)	Keeps active timers, the step sensor and an in-progress voice recording running reliably. The service stops when the widget is removed or the activity ends.
Exact alarms (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM)	Lets the clock, timer, pomodoro and habit widgets tick accurately and reset at midnight.
Biometrics (USE_BIOMETRIC)	Optional. Locks the Clipboard widget behind your fingerprint or face unlock. The check is performed by Android; we never receive your biometric data.
Set wallpaper (SET_WALLPAPER)	Applies a wallpaper you picked, only when you confirm it.
Internet and network state	Required to relay Walkie Talkie messages, sync like counts, submit requests and fetch new widget and wallpaper content.

6. The widgets and the device data they use

Clocks, date and chronometer widgets read your system clock and nothing else.
Pedometer reads the hardware step counter and keeps today's total on the device.
Screen Time totals the day's screen-on duration from Android's usage-access data.
Clipboard stores the clips you save in app-private storage, optionally behind a biometric lock.
Compass uses the magnetometer and accelerometer. It does not use GPS and has no location permission.
Music reads the active media session to show and control what is playing.
Habits keeps your habit list and streaks on the device.
Age in Motion stores the birthdate you enter in private app preferences.
Gramophone records audio notes to the app's private storage. These are for you alone and are never uploaded.
Voice Mic passes your speech to your device's system speech recognition service and inserts the returned text at your cursor. See section 9 for what that means.
Wallpapers downloads images we publish. The request tells our provider only that some installation asked for an image.
Walkie Talkie is covered in section 7.

7. Walkie Talkie: sending and receiving voice messages

The Walkie Talkie widget lets two people exchange short recorded voice messages. It is not a live radio and does not use radio frequencies; the name describes the push-to-talk style of the widget only. Messages are recorded, sent and played back one at a time.

How two devices are connected

The first time you open the widget, your device generates a random eight-character Radio ID. It is not derived from your phone number, your Google account, your hardware serial, your IMEI or your MAC address, and it tells us nothing about who you are. You also pick a callsign, which is simply a nickname shown to the people you talk to.

To reach someone, you must enter their Radio ID. There is no directory, no search and no suggestion feature, so nobody can find you unless you have given them your ID yourself. You can remove a contact at any time, which stops them from reaching you.

What happens to a recording

A message may be up to 60 seconds long. The microphone opens only while you are recording.
The recording is uploaded over an encrypted connection to Google Firebase, stored against the recipient's Radio ID, and their device is notified that it is waiting.
When the recipient plays it, the stored message and any associated audio file are deleted from Firebase.
If it is never played, it is purged automatically within 48 hours of being sent.
We do not keep a copy, an archive or a backup of your voice messages beyond this. We do not transcribe them, analyse them, use them to identify you, or use them to train any model.

What this means in practice

Voice messages are not end-to-end encrypted. They are encrypted in transit and at rest by Google's infrastructure, but while a message is waiting to be played it exists on Firebase in a form that we are technically able to access. We access it only where we are legally required to, or where it is strictly necessary to investigate an abuse report under section 12. Please take this into account and do not use the Walkie Talkie widget to send confidential, financial, medical or otherwise sensitive information.

Once a recipient has played your message, their device may retain it locally, in the same way that any received message can be kept by the person who received it. Deleting it from our servers does not remove a copy somebody else has already received, and we have no control over what a recipient does with it.

8. Likes, widget requests and content updates

Community likes. Tapping the heart on a widget increments an anonymous counter in Firebase. It is not linked to your Radio ID, your installation or any account, because the app has none.
Widget requests. If you use the request form, the text you write is sent to Firebase so our team can read it and consider it for a future release. Please do not include personal details you would rather we did not hold.
Catalog, widget and wallpaper updates. The app checks Firebase for new widgets and wallpapers so it can offer them to you. This check carries no personal information.

9. Third-party services and processors

We use the following services, each of which handles data under its own privacy policy:

The app contains no advertising, analytics, attribution or social SDK beyond the Google services described above.

10. Data retention and deletion

Widget requests and feedback	Up to 24 months, or until you ask us to remove it, whichever comes first.
Abuse reports	Up to 12 months, so that we can recognise repeat behaviour.
Anonymous like counts	Indefinitely. These are aggregate numbers with no identifier attached, so they cannot be traced back to you.
Everything stored on your device	Until you delete it in the app, clear the app's storage, or uninstall. We never hold a copy.

Deleting your on-device data. Go to Android Settings, then Apps, then Nothing Inspired Widgets, then Storage, and choose Clear Data. Uninstalling the app has the same effect.

Deleting your cloud data. Email us at the address in section 18 and include your Radio ID, which you can find in the Walkie Talkie widget settings. The Radio ID is the only way we can locate your records, because we hold nothing else that identifies you. We will delete the Radio ID, its callsign, its notification token and any messages still pending for it, and we will confirm once this is done.

11. Security

All traffic between the app and Firebase uses TLS, and data held in Firebase is encrypted at rest by Google.
Your on-device data lives in app-private storage that other applications cannot read.
Access rules are configured so that a pending voice message can be retrieved only by the Radio ID it was addressed to.
Radio IDs are randomly generated and carry no hardware or account identifier.
Voice messages are not end-to-end encrypted. See section 7.

No security measure is absolute. A rooted or compromised device, or malware with elevated privileges, can undermine these protections, and we recommend keeping your device's screen lock and system updates enabled.

12. Acceptable use, blocking and reporting

Because the Walkie Talkie widget lets one person send content to another, the following applies to everyone who uses it.

What is not allowed. Do not use the widget to send anything unlawful, harassing, threatening, hateful, sexually explicit, or involving the exploitation of children; to impersonate another person; to send unsolicited bulk or commercial messages; or to send material you have no right to share.

You control who can reach you. Nobody can send you a message without your Radio ID, and the app offers no way to search for or discover other users. If you no longer want to hear from someone, remove them in the widget and they can no longer deliver messages to you. Clearing the app's data issues you a fresh Radio ID, which cuts off everyone who held the old one.

Reporting. You can report a message or a Radio ID from inside the app, or by emailing the address in section 18 with your own Radio ID and the Radio ID you are reporting. We review reports and aim to respond within 72 hours. Where a report is upheld we may disable the Radio ID concerned and block it from sending further messages. To investigate, we may need to access the reported message while it is still pending, and we may retain a copy for as long as the investigation and any legal obligation require.

13. Children's privacy

Nothing Inspired Widgets is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under 16 in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom.

The Walkie Talkie widget allows communication with other people and is not intended for children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child in your care has used it, or has sent us personal details through the request form, contact us at the address in section 18 with the Radio ID if you have it, and we will delete the associated records promptly.

14. International data transfers

Firebase is operated by Google LLC, and the data described in section 2(b) may be stored and processed on Google infrastructure outside your country, including in the United States. Where that involves a transfer out of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or India, it takes place under Google's Standard Contractual Clauses and the safeguards set out in the Firebase data processing terms. The transfer is limited to what delivering the feature requires: a short voice message that is deleted on playback, an anonymous identifier and a notification token.

15. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive a copy in a portable form, and to withdraw consent at any time. These rights arise under the GDPR and UK GDPR, under India's DPDP Act, and under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA.

We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we never treat you differently for exercising a privacy right.

You can act on most of these rights yourself and immediately: you can revoke any permission in Android Settings, delete your on-device data by clearing the app's storage, and reset your Radio ID by clearing the app's data. For anything held in Firebase, email us with your Radio ID as described in section 10.

Please note that if you do not supply your Radio ID we will genuinely be unable to find your records, because we hold no name, email address or account to match you against. We will respond to verified requests within 30 days. If you are in the EEA or the UK you may also complain to your local supervisory authority, and if you are in India you may raise a grievance with us at the contact address and then with the Data Protection Board of India.

Data is encrypted in transit, you can request that your data be deleted, and the app does not collect data for advertising or tracking purposes.

17. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes or as regulatory guidance develops. Any new collection, any new recipient, or any new transmission of data off your device will be described here before it takes effect, and the Play Store listing's Data Safety section will be updated to match. The date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
